Space Program Unlimited LLC d/b/a Maker Studio
License Terms
Governing use of files exported from the Maker Studio applications
Effective date: October 6, 2026
1. Scope and Acceptance
These License Terms are a binding agreement between you and Space Program Unlimited LLC, a Delaware limited liability company with its principal place of business in Astoria, Oregon, doing business as Maker Studio ("Maker Studio," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your rights in Output Files you generate using the Maker Studio applications, including Layered Maps, 3D Maps, and Box Maker (each, an "App," and collectively, the "Services").
By generating, exporting, downloading, using, or distributing an Output File, you accept these License Terms. If you do not accept them, do not export or use Output Files. These License Terms incorporate our Terms of Use, Billing and Refunds Policy, Privacy Policy, and Copyright and DMCA Policy by reference. If these License Terms conflict with the Terms of Use regarding the rights granted in Output Files, these License Terms control.
2. Definitions
"Output File" means any file generated by an App from your inputs and exported or downloaded by you, in any format, including vector, mesh, image, and machine-ready formats.
"Physical Product" means a tangible object you fabricate using an Output File, including a laser-cut, CNC-machined, engraved, printed, or otherwise manufactured item.
"Third-Party Data" means the geospatial, elevation, land-cover, canopy, imagery, boundary, search, and related data supplied to the Services by the providers identified in Section 9, together with any data later substituted for it.
"Your Content" means the inputs you supply, including coordinates, place names, search terms, text, uploaded shapes or images, color and layer choices, and design arrangements.
"Creator License" means the license granted in Section 5 while you maintain an active, paid Creator subscription in good standing. "Hobby License" means the license granted in Section 4.
"Commercial Use" means any use intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or monetary compensation, including selling, licensing, or bartering Output Files or Physical Products, use in client or commissioned work, and use in advertising or promotion of a business.
3. Ownership
3.1 What you own
You retain ownership of Your Content. As between you and Maker Studio, you own the original, creative selection and arrangement you contribute to an Output File, to the extent that contribution is protectable under applicable law. We do not claim ownership of your designs or your Physical Products.
If you choose to publish a design through a community or Quick Customize feature, Section 3.5 describes the additional rights you grant. Publishing does not transfer ownership of your design; it grants a license.
3.2 What we own
We own the Services, including the Apps, their source code, generation algorithms, templates, presets, interface, documentation, and our names, logos, and other brand features. We also own the proprietary lake-depth dataset we developed and the compilations, styling, and presentation layers we apply to third-party data. Nothing in these License Terms transfers any ownership interest in the Services or in that proprietary data to you, and the restrictions in Section 10 on extracting and redistributing data apply to it.
3.3 What nobody owns exclusively
An Output File is generated largely from Third-Party Data. We do not own that data, and neither do you. Your rights in an Output File are limited by the rights our data providers grant, and your license under these License Terms is in substance a pass-through of those rights. Factual geographic information, such as the location of a coastline, road, or contour line, is not owned by anyone and is not protected by copyright.
3.4 No exclusivity
Output Files are generated from shared data using shared tools. Another user who enters the same or similar inputs may receive a substantially identical Output File, and may sell Physical Products that look substantially identical to yours. We grant no exclusivity over any location, coordinate set, style, or resulting design, and we make no commitment to prevent others from generating similar results.
3.5 Designs you publish for community use
Maker Studio offers optional publishing features, such as Quick Customize, that let you submit one of your designs to a shared community library where other Maker Studio users can customize it, reuse it, and export their own Output Files from it. Publishing is entirely voluntary, and nothing requires you to publish any design.
When you publish a design, Maker Studio creates a separate copy of it for community use. You keep your original design and your ownership of your original work, and publishing does not transfer ownership of your design to Maker Studio or to any other user.
Publishing does grant a license. At the time you publish, you are shown and must agree to a separate publishing grant that describes the rights you give Maker Studio and other users in the published copy — including the right to host, display, copy, modify, adapt, and distribute it, to make it available as a customizable template, and to let other users customize, export, and fabricate from it. Those publish-time terms govern the rights in a published design and control over this Section 3 to the extent they address a published design. You can stop offering a design for new community use as described in the publishing feature, but doing so does not revoke rights already exercised in copies other users have already made.
4. Hobby License
If you hold an active Hobby subscription when you export an Output File, we grant you a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use that Output File for personal, non-commercial purposes only. Subject to Sections 7 through 10, you may:
- generate, export, store, and modify Output Files for your own use;
- fabricate Physical Products from Output Files for yourself, your household, or as unpaid gifts; and
- display Output Files and Physical Products on personal social media, so long as the post is not an advertisement for a business and is not monetized.
Under a Hobby License you may not sell, license, trade, or otherwise commercially exploit an Output File or any Physical Product, use an Output File in client, contract, or commissioned work, or distribute an Output File to any other person.
The Hobby License for an Output File exported during an active Hobby subscription is perpetual for personal use and survives the end of your subscription. It does not convert into a Creator License.
5. Creator License
While you maintain an active, paid Creator subscription in good standing, we grant you a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Output Files for personal and Commercial Use. Subject to Sections 6 through 10, you may:
- generate, export, store, and modify Output Files without quantity limits;
- fabricate and sell Physical Products made using Output Files, with no cap on units sold and no revenue threshold or royalty owed to us;
- sell or deliver finished Output Files to your own customers as a digital product or as part of a commissioned project, subject to Section 6;
- use Output Files in client work, in your own advertising and marketing, and in retail, wholesale, and online marketplace channels; and
- allow your employees and contractors to use Output Files on your behalf, and allow the recipient of a Physical Product or finished Output File to use it, as described in Section 7.
Your Creator License applies to Output Files you exported at any time, including those exported while you held a Hobby subscription, for as long as your Creator subscription remains active. A prior refund, chargeback, or cancellation does not disqualify you: what matters is whether your Creator subscription is active at the time of the Commercial Use.
6. Selling Output Files to Others
A Creator License permits you to sell an Output File you generated, but it does not allow you to put us, or our data providers, in competition with ourselves. When you sell or transfer an Output File:
- The purchaser receives personal-use rights only. Unless that purchaser holds an active Creator subscription of their own, they may fabricate the item for personal use but may not resell the Output File or sell Physical Products made from it.
- You must pass through the attribution requirements in Section 9 with the file, in a README, listing text, or equivalent accompanying material.
- You may not sell or distribute Output Files in bulk as a dataset, file library, template pack, or subscription offering, or in any volume or manner that functions as a substitute for a Maker Studio subscription.
- You may not offer a generation service. You may not use the Services to produce Output Files on demand for third parties in a manner that resells access to the Services, including through automated, scripted, or queued ordering.
- You may not represent that you own the underlying map, elevation, or land-cover data, or that your file is endorsed by Maker Studio or by any data provider.
7. Multi-User, Business, and Institutional Use
A subscription is personal to the subscriber. A Creator License covers use by the subscriber and by employees, contractors, and volunteers acting on the subscriber's behalf and under the subscriber's control, including use within a single shop, studio, or business.
A Creator subscriber may also distribute Output Files for use by participants in a makerspace, classroom, library, workshop, or similar setting, provided that the Output Files originate from that subscriber's active Creator subscription, the subscriber remains responsible for compliance with these License Terms, and recipients are given the attribution requirements in Section 9. Recipients receive personal-use rights only unless they hold their own Creator subscription.
A separate legal entity, or a separate business operated by a different person, requires its own subscription. Account credentials may not be shared outside the subscriber's organization.
8. Effect of Cancellation, Lapse, Refund, Chargeback, or Termination
8.1 Commercial rights end with the subscription
Your Creator License is a subscription license. If your Creator subscription ends for any reason, including cancellation, non-payment, expiration, refund, chargeback, or termination by us, your right to make new Commercial Use of Output Files ends on the date the subscription ends.
8.2 What survives
- Physical Products you lawfully made and sold while your Creator subscription was active remain lawfully sold. You are not required to recall them, and your customers' rights in items they purchased are not affected.
- Finished Output Files you lawfully sold or delivered while your Creator subscription was active remain validly licensed to those purchasers for personal use.
- Inventory sell-through. Physical Products already manufactured and held in inventory when your Creator subscription ends may be sold for 30 days after that date. After that period, selling them requires an active Creator subscription.
- Output Files you exported remain licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use on the Hobby License terms in Section 4.
8.3 Reinstatement
Reactivating a Creator subscription restores your Commercial Use rights prospectively, including for Output Files exported during any lapse. It does not retroactively authorize Commercial Use that occurred while you had no active Creator subscription.
9. Attribution Requirements
Maker Studio relies on open and licensed data from the providers below. Several of those licenses require that credit travel with the work. Attribution is a condition of your license, not a courtesy. If you fabricate, publish, sell, or distribute an Output File or a Physical Product, you must include the applicable credits in a reasonably visible place: on the item itself, on an accompanying card, tag, insert, or packaging, in the online listing or product description, or in the file's accompanying documentation.
The required credits for the data sources currently used by the Services are:
| Provider | What it supplies | Required credit |
|---|---|---|
| OpenStreetMap | Roads, trails, rivers, place and address search | © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) |
| Mapbox | Background maps, map imagery, and map rendering | © Mapbox |
| LocationIQ | Address, place, and boundary search | © LocationIQ; © OpenStreetMap contributors |
| MapTiler | Ocean, land, contour, and building layers | © MapTiler |
| USGS | High-resolution U.S. elevation | Elevation data courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey |
| OpenTopography | Global elevation (AW3D30) | AW3D30 data via OpenTopography; © JAXA |
| ESA WorldCover | Land-cover classification | © ESA WorldCover Project (CC BY 4.0) |
| Meta / WRI | Tree canopy height | On-product credit required: Canopy height data © Meta and World Resources Institute |
| Geological Survey Ireland | Ireland elevation (DTM) | © Geological Survey Ireland |
| swisstopo | Switzerland elevation | © swisstopo |
| BEV (Austria) | Austria elevation | © BEV, Austria |
You only need to credit the sources actually used in your Output File. The Services will indicate the applicable sources at export where technically practicable; if you are unsure, include the full list above. We may update this table as data providers change, and the version in effect when you export a file governs that file. The current list is always available at maker.studio.
Credits must remain legible and must not be altered, obscured, or removed. Attribution does not imply that any provider endorses you, your business, or your products.
10. Restrictions
Regardless of your plan, you may not:
- Use Output Files, Third-Party Data, or any part of the Services to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or develop any machine learning or artificial intelligence model or dataset, or permit any third party to do so, by any means including scraping or automated collection;
- make Commercial Use of an Output File without an active Creator subscription;
- extract, isolate, scrape, bulk-download, re-derive, cache, or redistribute the underlying Third-Party Data, map tiles, vector tiles, geocoding results, or elevation datasets as data, as distinct from using a finished Output File;
- remove, obscure, or falsify attribution, copyright notices, or provider credits;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code or generation logic of the Services from Output Files;
- use the Services or Output Files to build, train, or market a competing map-generation, design-generation, or file-generation product or service;
- use Output Files in any unlawful, infringing, defamatory, harassing, or deceptive manner, or in a way that infringes a third party's intellectual property, publicity, or privacy rights;
- claim copyright, trademark, or other exclusive rights in the underlying Third-Party Data, or register any design right that would purport to cover factual geographic data; or
- use Output Files for navigation, surveying, engineering, construction, land use, emergency response, or any other safety-critical or legally consequential purpose. Output Files are decorative and illustrative only. See Section 15.
11. Third-Party Data Terms
Your use of Output Files is subject to the terms of the providers whose data they incorporate, including the Open Database License for OpenStreetMap data, Creative Commons Attribution terms for ESA WorldCover and Meta / WRI canopy data, and the applicable commercial terms of Mapbox, MapTiler, LocationIQ, and the national mapping agencies listed in Section 9. Where those terms are more restrictive than these License Terms, those terms control, and we cannot grant you rights broader than our own providers grant us.
We make no representation that any particular Output File may be used in any particular way under a provider's terms. If your intended use is unusual, high volume, or commercially significant, you are responsible for confirming that it is permitted, and we encourage you to contact us first at support@maker.studio.
12. Fonts, Icons, and Clip Art
12.1 Fonts
The Apps let you add text to a design using typefaces made available through the Services. Those typefaces are supplied by their publishers under free, permissive licenses, principally the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1, and in the case of certain typefaces the Apache License, Version 2.0. Font files are loaded for rendering and are not transferred to you.
When you export, text is written into the Output File as geometry, not as font software. You may use, fabricate from, and sell items containing that lettering in accordance with your plan. You may not extract, isolate, convert, redistribute, or resell the underlying font software, or offer it as a font product, and you may not use a typeface name in a way that suggests the publisher endorses your product.
12.2 Icons and interface graphics
Icons and graphics that form part of the Apps' interface are licensed to us for use in the Services. They are not licensed to you for use in your own products except to the extent they are incorporated into an Output File you generate.
12.3 Clip art and symbol search
Some Apps include a search tool that retrieves clip art and symbols from a third-party catalog. The catalog provider permits commercial use of the material it supplies, and your plan governs what you may do with a design that incorporates it. Individual items may still carry their own attribution requirements or restrictions, and we do not independently verify the rights in each item.
You remain responsible for confirming that any clip art or symbol you insert may be used in the way you intend. We grant no rights in that third-party material beyond the right to use the search tool as part of the Services, and the warranty disclaimer in Section 15 applies to it in full. Do not insert third-party logos, brand marks, or character art unless you hold the rights to use them.
13. Trademarks and Third-Party Rights in Your Designs
Your license covers the data and tools we supply. It does not grant any right to use a third party's trademark, service mark, trade dress, logo, mascot, team or school name, flag, seal, character, or other protected indicia, and it does not grant any right of publicity in a person's name, image, or likeness.
Place names, street names, and geographic features are generally not protected, but names of venues, institutions, teams, and businesses frequently are, and some jurisdictions restrict use of official seals, flags, and emblems. If you add a logo, mark, mascot, institutional name, or person's likeness to a design, you are responsible for obtaining any permission required, and your indemnification obligation in Section 17 applies to that use.
14. Content You Upload
Some Apps let you upload a shape, outline, image, or similar file to incorporate into a design. You retain ownership of what you upload. You represent and warrant that you own or have all rights necessary to upload that content and to have it incorporated into an Output File, and that it does not infringe or violate any third party's rights.
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, modify, and display your uploaded content solely to operate the Services, provide support, and generate your Output Files. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for reasonable backup copies and as required by law. We do not use your uploaded content to train artificial intelligence models.
Output Files that incorporate content you upload are your responsibility. We are not able to verify whether an uploaded shape, logo, or image is protected by copyright or trademark, and our Copyright and DMCA Policy governs infringement claims.
15. Disclaimer of Warranties
OUTPUT FILES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. WE DISCLAIM ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
Without limiting the foregoing, we do not warrant that an Output File is geographically accurate, complete, current, or suitable for any particular machine, material, tolerance, scale, or fabrication process. Elevation, land-cover, canopy, bathymetry, boundary, and road data are modeled or crowd-sourced and routinely contain errors and omissions. You are solely responsible for reviewing, test-cutting, and verifying any Output File before fabrication, and for the safe operation of your equipment and materials.
We do not warrant that an Output File is free of third-party rights, or that your use of one will not be challenged.
16. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST REVENUE, LOST DATA, WASTED MATERIALS, MACHINE TIME, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO OUTPUT FILES OR THESE LICENSE TERMS, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO OUTPUT FILES OR THESE LICENSE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of this Section and Section 15 may not apply to you. Nothing in these License Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, or any non-waivable statutory rights you may have as a consumer.
17. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Maker Studio, its members, officers, employees, and contractors from and against any claim, demand, loss, liability, and reasonable expense, including attorneys' fees, arising out of or relating to your Commercial Use of Output Files, your Physical Products, content you upload, your failure to comply with Section 9 or Section 10, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
18. Enforcement and Termination of License
If you breach these License Terms, we may suspend or terminate your license, your account, or both, with or without notice depending on the severity of the breach. Termination of your license does not limit any other remedy available to us or to a data provider. Sections 3, 8.2, 9 through 14, 15 through 17, and this Section survive termination.
19. Changes to These License Terms
We may update these License Terms. The version in effect at the time you export an Output File governs the rights you received in that file, except that the restrictions in Section 10 and the attribution requirements in Section 9 apply as updated to the extent required by a data provider or by law. We will post material changes at maker.studio and, for active subscribers, provide at least 30 days' notice by email before the change takes effect for new exports.
20. Governing Law and Disputes
These License Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and the dispute resolution provisions of our Terms of Use apply to any dispute arising under these License Terms.
